Author(s): A.DUTTA
Abstract: The effects of sowing date (15 November, 30 November, 15 December, 30 December and 15 January) on the performance of 3 sunflower hybrids (PAC 1091, KBSH 44 and KBSH 1) were studied in Berhampore, West Bengal, India, during 2008-09. Sowing on 30 November resulted in the greatest average head diameter (16.8 cm), seed filling percentage (92.7%), 100-seed weight (5.5 g) and seed yield. Plant height and oil yield decreased with the delay in the sowing date; however, the delay in sowing resulted in lower number of days to 50% flowering and maturity..
