Author(s): S. DEY AND A. CHAKRABORTY
Abstract: Field studies were conducted in West Bengal, India, to determine the resistance of various potato cultivars against early blight caused by Alternaria solani. The cultivars studies were Kufri Chandramukhi, Kufri Pukhraj, Kufri Jyoti, Kufri Chipsona-1, Kufri Jawahar, Kufri Anand, Kufri Giriraj, Kufri Ashoka, Kufri Surya and Kufri Bahar. Data were recorded on the percent disease incidence and intensity after fungal inoculation. The field reaction of this cultivars to early blight was also determined. Results showed that Kufri Giriraj, Kufri Anand, Kufri Jawahar, Kufri Pukhraj, Kufri Surya, Kufri Chipsona-1 and Kufri Ashoka were highly susceptible, whereas Kufri Bahar and Kufri Chandramukhi were susceptible to early blight. Kufri Jyoti was only moderately susceptible to this disease. No cultivar showed moderately resistant or resistant reaction against early blight of potato.
