Abstract: Crop area estimation and forecasting of crop yield are an essential procedure in supporting policy decision regarding land use allocation, food security and environmental issues. The present paper intended to give a comprehensive picture of current status of rice production in West Bengal. Time series modeling using ARIMA model was developed for individual univariate series of both area and production of rice in West Bengal since independence. Box and Jenkins linear time series model, which involves autoregression, moving average, and integration, termed as ARIMA (p, d, q) model was applied.
