Author(s): H.R. PARIDA, J. MANDAL AND S. MOHANTA
Abstract: Thirty five brinjal genotypes were assessed and characterized using descriptors of Biodiversity International for nine vegetative, two flowering and nine fruiting traits under red and laterite zone of West Bengal. A considerable variation was noted among the genotypes for different characters. Most of the genotypes showed upright growth habit and no prickles on leaf. Wide variation was noted in corolla colour and flowers per inflorescence. Variation was also observed in prickles on fruit calyx and fruit pedicel. However, most of the genotypes had no curvature on fruit and majority of the genotypes produced single fruit per cluster.
