Abstract: Rice is life to a majority of people in Asia. The cultivation of rice represents both a way of life and a means to livelihood. India is second largest producer after china and has an area of over 42.2 million hectares and production of 104.32 million tonnes with productivity of 2372 kg ha-1. (Anon. 2012). It is accounts for about 42 per cent of total food grain production and 55 per cent of cereal production in the country.
